Who do you have to be to get the likes of rock-god offspring Frances Bean Cobain, all-American sweetheart Mandy Moore and rap industry royalty Lil' Kim in the same (granted, very spacious) room? Marc Jacobs, I guess, who did just that — and, at the risk of sounding like a 60-second infomercial, more! — at his Fall 2017 runway show on Thursday. The designer has been known to assemble quite the epic front row crew season and season, tapping into his hefty rolodex of famous friends in the fashion, music, art and entertainment worlds. This time around, he included, among others, Cobain, Moore, Lil' Kim, Lottie Moss, Amanda Peet, Vic Mensa, Zosia Mamet, Sara Sampaio, Kiersey Clemons, Juno Temple, Sabrina Carpenter and Katy Perry. (There's a lovely little caveat here, though. Arranging his seating into one long line of folding chairs without rows made it so that everyone was in the front row. Aw.)

Michael Kors Fall 2017 RTW Collection Exudes Strength and Seduction

Michael Kors just presented one of his most American runway shows ever at New York Fashion Week a few hours ago, with each one of his fall/winter 2017-18 ready-to-wear collection’s staples being all about classic styles and modern refinements.

With a star-studded front row filled with celebrities and personalities who have always been huge fans of Michael Kors (especially Gossip Girl Blake Lively), the latest Michael Kors fall/winter 2017-18 rtw collection was an ode to both the designer’s signature aesthetics, and a kind of modernity that exudes positive vibes while at the same time celebrating the US cultural legacy.

Showcased in the coed format, which brought the men’s wear line onstage too, the Michael Kors fall 2017 ready-to-wear collection was coherently structured in different themes, which all saw elegance and soigné detailing as the common fil rouge. This time around, American designer Michael Kors opted for more conventionally formal designs, although still injecting more youthful proposals here and there. Although being certainly sophisticated, all of the proposals were never boring, with jocose animal prints and rich colors revamping the scene.

Two were the biggest motifs in this collection, with the second one being the one the designer actually developed and played with more. The Michael Kors fall/winter 2017-18 collection’s most recurring pattern was the abounding amount of coats, mostly made of fur, which also is one of Kors’ biggest strengths. Instead of treating us to only two or three proposals, the designer literally overwhelmed us with it-items to wear all winter long, especially when it comes to the camel coats.

The collection’s coats were also carefully divided, throughout the show, according to different occasions, with both elegant and more casual staples dominating the scene. The collection’s second part was, on the other hand, the one that could be described as the more Americana-inspired, and which was also almost solely made of monochrome styles. Ton-sur-ton grays, beiges and dark greens created a minimalistic complexity we yet had to see on this New York Fashion Week’s stage, and which offered us either solid-colored full outfits to feel fancy in, or single separates to mix-and-match with one another.

The Michael Kors fall/winter 2017-2018 collection’s second part was also the one that played with evening proposals more, and which added dynamic fringes and shimmery sequined patterns to most of the silhouettes. Of course, both parts included a dream array of accessories that will fly off the shelves as soon as the collection hits the stores as usual, as Michael Kors has become one of the industry’s most accountable designers when it comes to statement-making accessories (especially handbags).

It is also interesting to notice how diverse Michael Kors’ squad was, with models of the moment Carolyn Murphy, Isabeli Fontana, Iselin Steiro, Guinevere van Seenus, Natasha Poly, Arizona Muse, Karmen Pedaru, Amber Valletta, Ashley Graham, Bella Hadid, Aymeline Valade, Joan Smalls and, lastly, Kendall Jenner (who closed the show with a gorgeous fringed black dress that won’t go forgotten for sure) walking the show.

10 Fashion Investments to Make This Year

Categories:Other Brands

I enjoy quick wardrobe updates that don’t break the bank, though this tendency makes me more susceptible to trends that last a millisecond, as my wallet and I would admit. It’s time for a change. Let 2017 be the year to build a solid relationship with emerging classics and well-made pieces that we can wear over and over!

This strategy probably holds more value than devoting my hard-earned clothing budget to passing trends. So goodbye, chokers, obscenely ripped denims, and body suits that pretend to be tops. From statement shoes to luxe coats, here’s my roadmap to becoming a savvier shopper!

1. Fitted LBD with Cold Shoulder Detail from HOTPING

A good LBD is always appropriate, and easy to dress up and down for any occasion. Though it’s not difficult to find a black dress just about anywhere, one that truly fits requires a sharper eye! I love this tailored number with flattering shoulder cutouts, and a nipped waist that hugs for a flawless fit.

2. Classic Trench Coat in Black from GUMZZI

They say a leather trench coat is a must-own but I personally find it a bit hard to incorporate into day looks. I suggest that you stick to a well-tailored classic trench in a neutral hue like black, which ensures you can wear it for years to come. I love this creation from GUMZZI for its minimal detailing and sassy slit at the back. A little bad weather can’t cramp your style!

3. Fitted Jeans from Seoul Fashion

Shopping for true blues that hug in all the right places is rarely a fuss-free experience. It took me seasons to find my fit, for starters. I’m all for the straight leg cut of this dark-washed pair, which also shows off curves. The frayed cuffs inject just the right amount of detail. The design has the potential to last me years.

4. Faux Leather Jacket from LOLOten

I’m well aware that manmade leather doesn’t have the “supple, luxurious” touch of the real thing, but wearing cow just doesn’t feel right, not to mention it isn’t even necessary when there are slick styles like this one available. Trenches are pretty serious and are hence reserved for weekdays, while a good moto jacket is the perfect companion to lighten up weekend looks.

5. Plain Dress Pants from MyFiona

We’ve been playing with statement pants for a while now, and it’s time for a sophisticated silhouette to complete the mix. The sleek fit, pressed creases, perfectly symmetrical seams and subtle flare of this pair tick every box. These pants also seamlessly transition between work and play.

6. Velvet Dress with Sheer Sleeves from lilygirl

One of the biggest trends from last year, velvet is here to stay for 2017. So go bigger and bolder! In my case, it’s to graduate from pants to a full dress. The sheer lace sleeves of this alluring number play up the gothic vibe nicely. It’s a natural match with black lace heels!

7. Denim Jacket from J-ANN

Yes, we’re over dramatically ripped denims (for now). This well-behaved jacket does a nice job of putting that point cross. A trusty jean jacket will complement just about any outfit for years to come. It has a clean silhouette ideal for wearing over graphic tees with matching jeans.

8. Color-Block Heels with Ankle Straps from Pastel Pairs

These colorful kicks are perfect for spring and easily elevate office outfits, though I’m itching to wear them with boyfriend jeans. Heels are pretty, though not fun to wear, but the ankle straps make them more comfortable by making sure they fit snugly.

9. “Ring-Bearing Shoulder Bag from NANING9

Good bags are good investments – after all, they’re something you use every day. And if you don’t already own something with a metal ring embellishment, this sleek shopper bag is a good choice for dressing up downtime looks and complementing nine-to-five ensembles!

10. Ankle Boots from Freesia

When deciding to give my black boots a break during the warmer months, I was torn between navy and gray, but this strappy pair had me at the subtle detailing and quality finish. I’ll try them with wide culottes and lace for a play on textures and proportions. It’s a trend-proof essential that works however you style them.

Ralph Lauren’s Spring/Summer 2017 RTW Collection Exudes Desert Vibes

Ralph Lauren, one of America’s most iconic fashion houses, has just unveiled its spring/summer 2017 ready-to-wear collection at 888 Madison Avenue, New York, with all of the staples being already available for purchase at

Ralph Lauren Spring/ Summer 2017 RTW collection – NYFW

This was, in fact, Ralph Lauren’s second take on the acclaimed see-now-buy-now-formula, which was overall positively received for the Ralph Lauren fall/winter 2017 collection. Although united through the same strategy, the two lines present two big differences.

First of all, the current Ralph Lauren spring/summer 2017 rtw line-up was all about Ralph Lauren’s luxurious taste, which inevitably reminded us of the fashion house’s opulent legacy from the Nineties. The autumnal season, on the other hand, presented an overall “model off-duty” kind of aesthetic that was more wearable on a daily basis. Secondly, the two lines were showcased in two different historical moments.

This collection comes after Ralph Lauren’s decision to dress first lady Melania Trump for the Inauguration Day, a choice some people did not approve (although others saw it as an act of fairness, given the fact that Ralph Lauren was very vocal about his support for Hillary Clinton and created the looks she wore during her campaign). That being said, it will be extremely interesting to see whether such a choice will actually have any kind of repercussion on the sales of this see-now-buy-now collection.

Strategies, politics and marketing aside, the Ralph Lauren spring/summer 2017 collection was particularly appealing fashion-wise, with most of the staples exuding a sense of quietness and elegance that was inspired by the desert and its sandy landscapes.

While creating the pieces, American fashion designer Ralph Lauren managed to translate every kind of feeling, daydream and sound that one gets while thinking about Sahara Desert, with even the oasis being figuratively transposed to fashion. For these reasons, the collection’s color palette and the fabric’s textures were the elements Lauren emphasized most, with the former being all about ochres, beiges and sunburned shades, and the latter featuring an otherworldly array of textures that, when not opaque, shone like mirages thanks to their sleek accents.

And appealing surely were the kind of figures, silhouettes and cuts he chose to accentuate throughout the line-up, as they were still coherently anchored to the desert theme. Relaxed and with a style that could be described as the perfect bond between loungewear and utilitarian, urban-chic style, the Ralph Lauren spring 2017 collection featured both day-to-day staples, such as suit jackets and hybrid harem pants, and ultra refined frocks to wear during the fanciest nights out.

Although he did put more strategically casual items here and there, such as jeans and shirts, the collection’s overall attitude was luxurious, meaning that those who are in the mood for treating themselves to something unapologetically soigné, will definitely find a lot of brilliant ideas in this collection.

Fur trimmed jacket over mini slip dress from Marc Jacobs’ fall-winter 2017 collection

Fur trimmed jacket over mini slip dress from Marc Jacobs’ fall-winter 2017 collection

For his fall-winter 2017 collection, Marc Jacobs found inspiration in hip-hop. After watching the documentary series, ‘Hip-Hop Evolution’, the American designer paid tribute to the genre with the latest season. The fall season spotlighted layered looks starting with roomy jackets worn over baggy trousers and sweaters. Jacobs’ fabric of choice was corduroy. From pants to jackets, the retro fabric cements the collection’s 80’s vibe. And when the Marc Jacobs woman wants to show some skin, there are thigh-high slip dresses or embroidered skirts. For footwear, platform shoes and sleek, calf high boots deliver. Finishing the look are backward baseball caps, cloche hats, beanies and gold chains made with artist Urs Fischer.

“As a born and bred New Yorker, it was during my time at the High School of Art and Design when I began to see and feel the influence of hip-hop on other music as well as art and style,” Jacobs says in the show notes. “This collection is my representation of the well-studied dressing up of casual sportswear. It is an acknowledgement and gesture of my respect for the polish and consideration applied to fashion from a generation that will forever be the foundation of youth culture street style.”
